FC Domzale's finances do not allow them to spend big on transfers. When signing new players they usually do not pay transfer fees and rely mostly on bringing in free agents.

The predominant strategy is to contract players from abroad as the football player market in Slovenia is very saturated. Foreign players mainly come from the territory of ex Yugoslavia but the club is also very keen to bring in promising players from distant countries.
Developing young players and selling them on at a profit has allowed FC Domzale to keep the pace in the Slovenian league and establish itself as a club that can compete in Europe. FC Domzale is managing to further develop their academy which can be already now seen as nr. 1 in the country. For the last 10 years, FC Domzale's U19 and U17 teams have been at the very top of Slovenian youth leagues, and they also produce players that start playing for their A team. Some, like Benjamin Sesko who is currently playing for Red Bull Salzburg, are even transferred to much bigger clubs. This season, the FC Domzale U19 team has also played in the UEFA Youth League qualification round where it lost against FC Empoli (2:3 in aggregate).
